
Functional Skills in English
What are Functional Skills?
Functional skills English is an accessible qualification that prepares students for further study or work by acquiring a variety of important skills. The timings needed to complete the qualification can vary from student to student. But we ensure through active engagement and bespoke lessons, that the students are comfortable, confident and ready to take the exams before entering them.
The wide range of topics and subjects explored in Functional skills means we can cater towards students’ interests and allow time for creativity as well as gaining an important, recognised qualification.

Edexcel Functional Skills qualification in English at Level 1
This course will give students the opportunity to learn how to;

Compare ideas
-
Present texts appropriately
-
Write for specific audiences and purposes
-
Communicate and adapt language to suit different situations
 
There is no requirement for students to have taken Functional Skills English at Entry Level 3 before starting this course.
 
To achieve in this subject, students must complete 3 assessments. These are;
-
Reading
-
Writing
-
Speaking & Listening
 
Assessments require students to complete activities based around real life scenarios
 
If they are able, students can progress to Functional Skills English at Level 2.
Edexcel Functional Skills qualification in English at Level 2
Like Level 1 the course will give students the opportunity to learn how to;

Student ability will be assessed prior to deciding upon which level students’ study at. There is no requirement for students to have taken Functional Skills English at Level 1 before starting this course.
