MUSIC PERFORMANCE
RSL Level 2 Award and Extended certificate for music practitioners
This qualification is on a similar level to a GCSE qualification. There are two pathways, with the Award being one unit throughout the year and the Extended certificate being three units (one unit per term, during the year), of which one is a core unit which is externally moderated. There are no formal exams with this course.
The qualification allows learners to develop their performance capabilities and increase their aptitude on their given instrument, as well as gaining an effective knowledge of event organisation, rehearsal techniques and the contextual background to their chosen genre and style.

No previous music qualifications are required, and enthusiastic beginners are welcome.

The aim is to provide a flexible, vocationally relevant suite of popular music qualifications, which will equip learners with the skills to develop realistic employment opportunities in the music industry or to progress in education. The Level 2 qualification also offers a pathway to studying music further, perhaps via the Level 3 qualifications at Lamp which can offer a pathway to further education or university.

In summary, the two pathways contain specific units related to career options in the industry. Direct entry to the music industry tends to centre on self-employment or small-team operations, rather than contracted employment with large companies and organisations. However, the qualifications also equip learners wishing to progress to further or higher education via various Level 3 qualifications.
Units you will study include:

Rehearsal Skills, Composition and Live Performance. These units can be modified to suit students’ interests and needs.
